·      Present situation of Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is facing a huge threat from pollution. The survey, commissioned by the Ministry of Environment, found that pollution levels in the city of Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located, have risen significantly in recent years due to growth in industry, traffic and population. Vehicles are now prohibited from driving within 500 meters of the monument, and LED displays show air pollution.

But the new report found that emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, for example, have reached levels higher than a decade ago that prompted the Supreme Court to intervene to force authorities to act.

Agra is a bustling manufacturing hub in India’s populous and impoverished northern state of Uttar Pradesh, and environmentalists say the Taj Mahal is also threatened by falling water tables and pollution of the Yamuna River along the built structure. The level is much lower than when it was built, and the whole building is likely to be unstable because its foundation is made of wood and needs to be kept moist to avoid sinking.

Taj Mahal’s 22 doors loocked

New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition to investigate the “history” of the Taj Mahal. The court rejected a petition to open the doors of its 22 rooms to see “the truth, whatever it is.”

“These issues are outside the courtroom, should be resolved through various means, and should be left to historians,” the court said.

The request was made by BJP youth media chief Rajneesh Singh to the Lucknow Tribunal of the Allahabad High Court, which asked the Archaeological Survey of India to investigate the 22 closed doors of the Taj Mahal for Determine if Hindu deities exist.

The petitioners have said that a false history about the Taj Mahal is being taught, so the door should be left open to find out the truth.

The court said such arguments were for the parlor, not the courtroom.

The Mughal-era monument is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as the mausoleum of his wife Mumtaz. The shrinkage of the marble monument began in 1632, took 22 years, and was finally completed in 1653.

This architectural masterpiece was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
